Aims

PiCaM (Project in Citizenship and Mathematics) will endeavour to embed critical citizenship and global learning in the teaching and learning of mathematics in school.

Critical citizenship and global learning – to foster the attributes children need to be effective, responsible and critical global citizens

Learning mathematics – to engage ALL children with mathematics in class, supporting and reinforcing their sense of themselves as mathematicians

Professional development – to empower teachers and initial teacher education students to help their students with their global learning and their mathematics

Philosophy for Children - to use ideas derived from Philosophy for Children to develop critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity

Learning community - to support building classroom relationships to create a participatory, caring learning community
